Staff Assistant
Location: Washington, DC
Overview: The Office of Senator-elect Alsobrooks is seeking highly organized and detail-oriented individuals to serve as Staff Assistants in her Washington, D.C. office. The Staff Assistants will be the first point of contact in the Senator-elect’s office for constituents and visitors, assisting with a variety of essential tasks.
This is an entry level position. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Maintain front office operations, including answering telephones and responding to voicemails, greeting visitors, assisting with the internship program, and completing other administrative tasks as required.
- Schedule Washington, DC tours for constituents; leads and trains interns to provide tours of the U.S. Capitol building; maintains literature for visitors, including tour information, maps, and Senate gallery passes.
- Handle constituents’ service requests including processing requests for U.S. and state flags; drafting congratulatory or commemorative letters; and general requests for government publications, bills, and speeches.
- Support the office’s mailroom operation; ensures that all incoming postal and electronic mail is appropriately processed, screened, and routed to appropriate staff; enters constituent mail into the office’s correspondence management system.
- Responsible for taking the senator to events and meetings in Washington, DC and staffing the senator at various on and off-campus events and official duties.
- The Staff Assistant may occasionally assist with legislative research, as well as tracking Senate floor proceedings. This role may also include helping to organize events, town halls, or other constituent outreach activities, working closely with other staff to ensure all logistical needs are met.
